A Spokesperson for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Yaw Opoku Mensah, has alleged that the former Education Minister is being deliberately targeted with smear campaign, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race gathers momentum.
According to him, supporters of an aspirant, who are equally in the hot contest, have resorted to mudslinging and personal attacks, in an attempt to dent his mounting popularity among the delegates.

The smear campaign reportedly began with publications on some online portals, including multiple stories on Opera News captioned: “Why is Bawumia still walking free?”
The articles, which appeared under different authors’ names, were later flagged as fake news.
In addition, some former senior officials of the Education Ministry are allegedly part of this unhealthy agenda.
A former Deputy Director-General at the Ghana Education Service (GES), for example, recently blamed Dr. Adutwum for the early challenges associated with the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, during an interview with Channel One TV.
Dr.Adutwum has since remained silent on the matter. However, Yaw Opoku Mensah, a Spokesperson for Dr.Adutwum has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, describing them as calculated attempts to distract him from his campaign.
Despite the attacks, insiders say Dr. Adutwum’s record as Education Minister continues to endear him to party delegates.
His promotion of STEM education, classroom expansion projects and curriculum reforms are often cited as achievements.
As a former appointee, Dr. Adutwum’s impeccable performance is ingrained in the memories of many a Ghanaian.
Party watchers note that his clean campaign style, strong ties with the NPP hierarchy and consistent message of unity have placed him among the leading contenders in the race.
The NPP will elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026 ahead of the 2028 general elections.
