Hearts of Oak returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the AAK Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday afternoon, ending their winless streak and recording their first-ever triumph over the struggling Premier League side.
The Phobians had to dig deep against a resilient Holy Stars side determined to halt their poor run of form.
After a cagey opening half-hour, the visitors began to take control of proceedings and were rewarded just before the break.
Forward Frank Abora Duku kept his composure to convert from the spot, giving Hearts a slender lead going into halftime.
Hearts maintained their dominance after the restart, and in the 59th minute, Hamza Issah doubled the advantage with a fine finish, continuing his impressive scoring form this season.
The goal appeared to have sealed the game, but the hosts responded positively, earning a penalty in the 68th minute which was coolly converted by captain Issah Yakubu to restore hope.
Despite late pressure from Holy Stars, Hearts held firm to secure all three points.
The result lifts the Phobians closer to the top of the table, while Holy Stars remain rooted to the bottom, still without a win in eight matches.
