Eastern Region emerged champions of the maiden edition of the MTN Elite U19 Championship after edging Brong Ahafo 4-2 on penalties in a dramatic final at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Sunday.
The highly competitive final ended goalless in regulation time, forcing the contest into a nerve-wracking shootout.
Eastern Region’s goalkeeper produced two vital saves to guide his side to glory after teammates showed composure to convert four of their five spot kicks.
Midfielder Desmond Tutu, who endured a difficult night after missing a penalty in each half of regulation time, was eventually spared his blushes as coach Kelvin Agyemang Tuffuor’s side held their nerve to seal the historic victory.
The triumph capped off an impressive campaign for the Easterners, who topped their group earlier in the tournament and displayed tactical discipline and mental strength throughout the 11-day event.
Greater Accra’s Yussif Saani walked away with double honours - the Most Valuable Player and Goal King awards after netting five goals in six matches.
Eastern Region’s Ishmael Azagonor was named Best Goalkeeper, while teammate Prince Boakye received the Most Promising Player accolade.
The tournament, which ran from October 23 to November 2, 2025, featured ten regional teams and showcased Ghana’s rich reservoir of youth football talent.
