Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Adams has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting female athletes in Ghana, particularly the Black Queens, as they continue to make strides in women’s football across the continent.
In an interview on Original TV, the Minister disclosed that he personally intervened to ensure that the Black Queens received their per diems and outstanding bonuses following their emphatic 4â0 victory over Egypt on Tuesday in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
"I’m doing my best to support female athletes. For the Black Queens, I’ve assured them of their per diem and bonus before the game against Egypt," Hon. Adams said.
The team had earlier boycotted training for two days ahead of the decisive second-leg tie in Accra due to unpaid bonuses dating back to their third-place finish at the 2024 WAFCON.
After assurances from the Minister, the players agreed to return to training and went on to deliver a dominant performance, completing a 7-0 aggregate win over the Egyptians to secure qualification to next year's WAFCON.
