Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson says converting chances remains the major area of concern for his side, even after sealing a commanding aggregate win over Tunisia in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The Princesses triumphed 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, adding to their first-leg success to secure a 4-0 aggregate victory and progression to the next round.
Sampson, whose team continues Ghana’s proud tradition of youth development on the continental stage, reflected on the display after the final whistle.
“There's always room to improve on many things. We've been struggling a little bit in the last third. That has been some of our problems. Last week, we had the same problems too. But today, I think the girls were too much in a haste to score the first goal,” he said.
“And since the goals are not coming, they are a bit hasty in their decision-making.”
Despite those frustrations, Ghana made their superiority count over the two legs. Mercy Attobrah, who had scored both goals in Tunisia, continued her form by heading home Ivy Osei Owusu’s cross just before halftime.
Substitute Agnes Yeboah then struck immediately after the restart to complete the scoring and secure back-to-back wins.
The result sets up a mouth-watering clash with South Africa in the next round as the Princesses chase an eighth consecutive appearance at the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
