Bibiani Gold Stars Chief Executive Akwasi Adu says the club is fully prepared to adopt the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue for the CAF Champions League ahead of Saturday’s preliminary round clash against JS Kabylie.
Gold Stars would have preferred to play in Kumasi due to its proximity to Bibiani, but the Baba Yara Stadium was deemed unfit to host international matches. With Dun’s Park also failing to meet CAF standards, the Ghanaian champions have settled on the nation’s capital for their continental debut.
"Apart from Accra Sports Stadium, there is nowhere we can play our CAF Champions League games, so we are prepared to play in Accra. It’s the reason the GHALCA Top 4 was a good preparational ground for us going into this assignment," Adu told Sporty FM.
The GHALCA Top 4 pre-season tournament was staged in Accra at the University of Ghana Stadium, where Gold Stars spent weeks fine-tuning their squad. Their efforts paid off as they went on to win the tournament, giving them confidence ahead of their Champions League campaign.
Gold Stars face Algerian giants JS Kabylie on Saturday afternoon, kickoff at 3pm local time, with hopes of drawing strong fan support in Accra despite being away from their traditional base.
