Colchester United endured a tough afternoon at the Wham Stadium as they fell 1-0 to Accrington Stanley in League Two on Saturday.
The home side struck in the 32nd minute when Isaac Sinclair coolly finished from close range after being set up by Charlie Brown. That goal proved to be the difference in a game where Accrington looked sharp in attack despite having less possession.
Colchester enjoyed 58 percent of the ball but struggled to turn it into chances, registering only five shots compared to Accrington’s 16. Both sides had a single big chance, but it was Sinclair’s effort that counted.
The visitors’ hopes of finding an equaliser took a major blow late on when English-Ghanaian forward Owura Edwards was shown a straight red card in the 86th minute. His dismissal left Colchester with little time to fight back, and the frustration was clear among the travelling fans.
Accrington held firm through seven minutes of added time to claim the win, while Colchester will aim to bounce back against Bristol Rovers on September 20.
