Research by Chiropractic care practitioners suggest that the usual habit of sitting and crossing the legs at the knee could have dire health consequences including causing sexual weakness in men.
Disclosing this finding on the Ultimate Breakfast Show, Chiropractor with the Kumasi Chiropractic and Wellness Centre Malcolm Osei Tutu explained that the posture which has become fashionable could cause a shift in the hip piling unnecessary pressure on the central nervous system.
He told host Julius Caesar Anadem, “One of the bad postures is when people cross their legs at the knee.”
“When you cross your legs at the knee, the hip bone at the front is being closed; the joint at the back is being opened causing these muscles to stretch and putting undue pressure on the lower spine and the nerves in that area,” he described.
He further indicated, “Not just that, there is a nerve at the back of the knee which also weakens and creates numbness and tingling and this causes waist pain, knee pain, back pain and sexual weakness in men.”
Malcolm Osei Tutu rather recommended that the best sitting position was to sit upright with a solid back support and if there was any need to cross the legs, crossing at the ankles was more desirable.
