New West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has heaped praises on Mohammed Kudus following his first game in charge of the Hammers in the FA Cup last defeat last night.
Despite losing 2-1 to Aston Villa, Potter was impressed by the Ghanaian international’s performance as the target man after Niclas Fullkrug was forced out due to injury less than 15 minutes into the game.
In a post-match interview, the English manager stated that he has no issues with Kudus leading the Hammers’ attack after yet another striker was ruled out.
Mo [Kudus] was really dangerous. He’s got some good attributes.
He worked really well, first-half, pressing, won some balls. Carried a threat. He was affected by the team in the second half because it was more difficult for him to get into the game.
Good option centrally
With Fullkrug now joining Michail Antonio and Jarod Bowen on the sidelines, Potter believes the Black Stars player has what it takes to lead the Hammers’ attack going forward.
I was encouraged. He played more centrally than he has done for a bit. He quite likes that central role to the right.
He comes in on that left foot and he’s a threat. He offers us a good option, absolutely.
West Ham will host two Premier League London derbies in the space of five days. They will take on Fulham in a midweek fixture on Tuesday, January 14, before battling Crystal Palace four days later on Saturday, January 18, at the London stadium.
Kudus will likely be leading the attack in these two games with Danny Ings struggling to find the back of the net this season.
