Aburi Girls’ Senior High School in the Eastern Region on Saturday held its 79th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, emphasising the need to educate girls while shaping their character and dreams.
The event, under the theme: ‘A Legacy of Light: Influencing Future Generations,’ attracted traditional rulers, clergy, political figures, staff, and the 2000-year group (Millennium Beacons), who sponsored the ceremony.
“For 79 remarkable years, you have stood as a citadel of knowledge and a true ‘Light on the Hill’ (Bepow So Hann), molding the characters and dreams of the girl child into reality, and this is worth celebrating,” Deputy Chief of Staff, Madam Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, read on behalf of the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama.
Mrs Mahama highlighted Senior High School education as vital in shaping the ideologies, work ethics, patriotism, and character of young Ghanaians.
She indicated that under President John Dramani Mahama, the national Reset Agenda aims to support schools like Aburi Girls to produce morally grounded and academically excellent leaders.
She also announced the decentralisation of the School Feeding Programme.
On behalf of the First Lady, Madam Bampoe Addo presented GH¢20,000 to the school.
Guest speaker, Mrs Lydia Obenewa Essuah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Education and an alumna, underscored quality education as a catalyst for national development.
Headmistress Madam Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora appealed for support to address furniture shortages, incomplete teacher housing, and water scarcity, expressing gratitude to all, especially the Millennium Beacons, for their continued support.
