In-form Aston Villa will endeavour to strengthen their hopes of securing automatic last-16 qualification in the Europa League, when they welcome Young Boys to Villa Park for their latest League Phase fixture today.
The two teams butt heads just over 12 months on after locking horns in last season’s Champions League when Unai Emery’s men claimed a 3-0 victory in Bern.
Following a poor start to the 2025-26 season, failing to win any of their opening six games, Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has overseen an impressive upturn in form in the West Midlands, guiding his team to nine victories in their last 11 matches across all competitions (L2).
Emery is thrilled with how his team has risen to the “challenge” in recent weeks and believes that Villa are making positive progress towards their “ambitious objective to be in the top positions in the table”.
Emery’s men will be confident of success against Young Boys, as they enter Thursday’s contest having won 14 of their last 16 matches at Villa Park in all competitions (D1 L1), while they have also won all five European home games this calendar year – no team has won more home matches in European competition (excluding qualifiers) than Villa (12) since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign.
