Six individuals alleged to be part of a land guard syndicate have been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful trespass, and engaging in prohibited land guard activities, in connection with a violent incident on a disputed parcel of land at Sabanman, near Adjen Kotoku.
The accused—Azigli Ahor Togbi Gamashie (50, mason), Adam Salam (labourer), Abdul Karim Mumuni (26, labourer), Mumuni Hamza (19, labourer), Abdul Ganiu (24, labourer), and Hamidu Bukari (42, businessman)—all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Allegations and Charges
According to court documents, the six accused persons and other accomplices currently at large are alleged to have conspired to disrupt lawful construction works on land legally acquired by the complainant, the Chief Executive Officer of Silverline Realty & Investment Ltd.
The prosecution stated that the complainant legally acquired the land in 2023 from the Nii Saban Kofi Family after conducting a due diligence search at the Lands Commission, which confirmed the legitimacy of the grantors’ ownership backed by Land Title Certificate No. GA 68133.
However, on July 8, 2025, while the complainant and his workers were on-site, they were reportedly attacked by a group of armed men wielding guns, cutlasses, and other offensive weapons.
Police responded swiftly and arrested the six accused persons at the scene. A search conducted on them uncovered cutlasses, hammers, and other tools suspected to be used in the attack.
They have been charged with:
Count One: Conspiracy to Commit Crime—Prohibition of Land Guard Activities, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and Section 1 of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999).
Count Two: Unlawful Trespass, contrary to Section 157 of the Criminal Offences Act.
Count Three: Engaging in Prohibited Land Guard Activities, contrary to Section 7(1) of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999).
Bail Conditions
The court granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of GH¢100,000 each, with two sureties, both of whom must be public servants earning not less than GH¢5,000 monthly. For accused persons Adam Salam and Mumuni Hamza, the court ruled that they are to provide a third surety without justification.
Additionally, all accused persons are required to deposit their Ghana Cards with the court registry and report weekly to the police station. The judge sternly cautioned them to comport themselves and avoid any further interference in the ongoing case.
Next Steps
The prosecution has been directed to file all necessary disclosures and witness statements ahead of the trial. The case has been adjourned to August 28, 2025.
The police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects believed to have fled the scene during the July 8 confrontation.
