Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has vowed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament will remain a vigilant and formidable force, as the House reconvenes on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 following its recent recess.

Speaking to the media after a strategy meeting held by the Minority leadership on Sunday, Mr Afenyo-Markin stated: “This morning we met as a caucus to strategise for the second meeting of Parliament. It is a meeting of committee leaders to plan on how to be effective and ensure that the right things are done in our country.”
He further added that, “We (Minority) want the good of democracy and we are sending a strong message to our opponents that we will hold their feet to the fire.
“At the same time, we are going to be a responsible opposition and assure Ghana that we are ready to take the reins of government in 2028 to make Ghana better.”
Despite being the smallest caucus numerically, the Minority has built a reputation for standing firm on parliamentary business, especially when it comes to defending the public interest.
Their role during the vetting of ministerial nominees earlier this year demonstrated this clearly, as they subjected each nominee to thorough scrutiny, asking the hard questions and ensuring transparency.
Parliament went on recess on Friday, March 28, 2025 ahead of the Easter festivities and will resume tomorrow, May 27, 2025 for the second meeting of the Third Session of the 8th Parliament.
With the Minority’s renewed resolve and sharpened strategy, the stage is set for intense debates, deeper oversight and a highly engaged legislative session.
