Renowned British actor and filmmaker Idris Elba has proposed collaborating with the government to build a modern film and creative village on a section of the coastal land near the Osu Castle in Accra.
The project intends to revitalize the film industry while training and employing creatives.
Idris Elba, who is in Ghana, met with President John Mahama at the Jubilee House and expressed his commitment to bringing the film industry back to Africa and promoting African stories.
“We are here to make a presentation to you but also, we are hoping that this will be a conversation. We want to build this with you and we know that you have been very focused and briefed on the creative opportunity.
“By way of working with you on this we are very dedicated and focused on bolstering the creative sector of Ghana,” Idris Elba said.
The President affirmed his support for the project while making some suggestions to the development plan of the project.
“With the old castle, we can’t change it too much. We just have to restore it to what it should be. It’s been abandoned for quite a while,” the President said.
