Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Don-Don, caused a scene in court yesterday, demanding justice and insisting on his innocence in the murder of Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North.
The trial High Court, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, adjourned the case to February 25, 2025, prompting a furious outburst from the accused.
At the previous court sitting, Asiedu’s legal team, led by Daniel Danquah, had expressed their intention to file a bail application.
However, when the court reconvened, the defense represented by Sophia Armstrong admitted that they had not yet filed the motion.
Given that the case was slated for retrial following a hung verdict, the judge proceeded with another adjournment.
It was at this point that Asiedu lost his composure, shouting in both Twi and English that the judicial system was unfair and that he was an innocent man being unjustly detained. “Junior had determined my fate; I should have been set free,” he cried, referencing a previous ruling.
Justice Quarshie intervened, calling for order in the courtroom and instructing prison officers to restrain the accused. As Asiedu was escorted out, he continued to protest, demanding justice for himself.
Meanwhile, the widow of the slain MP, Ivy Heward-Mills, has taken to social media to express her frustration over the prolonged legal battle.
In a heartfelt post, she questioned why, after nine years, justice has not been served, particularly when the family needs closure to put this matter to rest.
With the retrial set to continue later this month, the case remains one of the most closely watched murder trials in Ghana’s recent history.
