Miscreants in Kumasi are stealing crash barriers and drain covers meant to protect the lives of pedestrians.
The Chronicle has noticed that a lot of bolts and nuts holding crash barriers together have been stolen. Some of the crash barriers have also been vandalised by drivers through accidents.
A typical example is the intersection connecting motorists from Baba Yara stadium to the defunct Childrens Park.
Other areas where this anomaly has been recorded are Asafo overhead, KNUST police station (Kumasi-Accra Highway), Adum-Nhyiaeso and a host of others.
When contacted, the Ashanti Regional Director of Urban Roads, Ing. Francis Gambrah acknowledged the problem.
According to him, the railings on most of the roads in Kumasi and its environs are being stolen by these miscreants.
He added that in some instances they steal the entire crash barrier. He, however, indicated that his outfit has adopted a new strategy to address the issue.
