Nana Asa Akompanin, Chief of Krobo in the Bono East Region, has admonished leaders of the two major political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) – to ensure that peace and order is maintained before, during and after the elections.
According to him, every Ghanaian is craving for peace and called on the leaders and all aspirants to “tame” their followers and ensure that sanity prevails at all times.
Nana Asa Akompanin, who is also the Kyidomhene of Techiman Traditional Area, appealed to the political party leaders and executives to educate their followers to avoid unnecessary hostilities as much as possible.
The Krobo chief, who was speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, reminded the parties and their supporters of the killings in the Techiman North during the 2020 elections and said lessons must be learnt from such unfortunate incidents, which arose out of misunderstanding in the electoral process.
The chief noted that the death of the eight persons are still fresh in the minds of Techiman citizens and Ghanaians in general, hence the need for political leaders to guard against recurrence of avoidable deaths.
“Life is precious and must be valued and not destroyed at the whims and caprices of our politicians”, Nana Akompanin cautioned.
He said destruction of human lives was not acceptable and must be condemned by society because God is the giver of life.
Nana Asa Akompanin also appealed to the electorate to think about what the future holds for them and their children and not indulged in acts of criminality and electoral malpractices, urging them to respect authority and avoid insults in politicking.
“Respect for authority is natural Law and if one fails to abide by natural law, one is bound to face the consequences”, Nana Akompanin said.
The Chief also appealed to the Inspector- General of police to be vigilant because the utterances and conduct of some politicians cannot be taken for granted and recommended that any person or group of persons who undermine peace now, during and after the elections must be dealt with severely by the Law.
He also appealed to the Electoral Commission to be transparent to ensure free and fair elections and by doing so help protect lives and properties.
“We have only one GHANA and the only thing Ghanaians need is peace, unity and development,” he said.
