Former United States star Alexi Lalas has stressed that he wants Ghana to be drawn in the same group as the World Cup hosts.
The West African country will make their fifth appearance in the Mundial next summer, having finished as group winners with 25 points.
With the draw set to be conducted on Friday, December 5, at the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC, Lalas, who scored nine goals in ninety-eight appearances for âThe Yankees’ between 1991 and 1998, described Ghana as not a great team and would love to have them in their group.
"This isn’t a great Ghana teamâ¦Give me Ghana," he told Fox Sports' special World Cup preview show.
"This isn’t a great Ghana team, but it is still Ghana. They have plenty of history when it comes to playing against us," he added.
Ghana has won two of the three meetings with the United States in the World Cup.
The Black Stars beat the Yankees 2-1 in the very first meeting between the two sides, a group-stage affair in 2006.
Four years later, the four-time African champions repeated the trick when Asamoah Gyan’s stoppage-time half-volley settled the round of 16 contest in extra time.
Ghana’s only defeat to the U.S was recorded in 2014, a 2-1 group stage loss in Brazil.
The draw for the World Cup is scheduled at 17:00 GMT.
Having exited at the group phase in 2014 and 2022 in Brazil and Qatar, the Black Stars will be hoping for a favourable draw.
