Basake Holy Stars will attempt to spark their survival bid when they welcome unbeaten Asante Kotoko to the AAK II Arena on Wednesday in their outstanding match-week three fixture.
Holy Stars sit 17th with six points from ten matches, recording one win, three draws and six defeats, a run that has left them among the league’s most vulnerable sides.
Their problems have been clear, with only seven goals scored, the joint-fewest in the league, and 16 conceded, the second-highest. Their home form offers some encouragement, as they have taken five points from four matches at Aiyinase, keeping two clean sheets along the way.
A victory against Kotoko would hand them a crucial lift in their attempt to climb out of the bottom three.
Kotoko arrive in strong form. Their draw with FC Samartex extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches, maintaining their status as the league’s only side yet to lose.
The Porcupine Warriors have five wins and five draws, with 11 goals scored and only four conceded, the joint-lowest tally in the division. Their defensive resilience has been especially evident away from home, where they have recorded two wins, three draws, two goals scored, and none conceded.
Karim Zito’s side now head to a ground where their only previous league visit produced a stalemate. Preserving their unbeaten record, and in particular their perfect defensive run away from home, will be their target against a Holy Stars team fighting to stay afloat.
