Karela United returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Basake Holy Stars in a thrilling Ghana Premier League encounter at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Having struggled for form in recent weeks, Karela produced a spirited performance to halt their winless run, with all three scorers - Philip Adom, Danlad Nuhu and Eric Antwi Konadu - registering their first-ever goals for the club.
Karela made a bright start and were rewarded in the 21st minute when Philip Adom finished off a well-worked move to give the home side a deserved lead.
They controlled the tempo for large periods and kept Holy Stars under sustained pressure, but went into the break with only a slender advantage.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 62nd minute through Danlad Nuhu, who reacted sharply inside the box to steer home from close range.
Karela tightened their grip on the game eleven minutes later when Eric Antwi Konadu fired in the third goal, seemingly putting the contest beyond Holy Stars.
But the visitors mounted a late fightback. Prince Tweneboah pulled one back in the 77th minute after capitalising on a defensive lapse, before Richmond Somiah added a second four minutes later to set up a tense finale.
Holy Stars, who have endured a difficult campaign but are not newcomers to the topflight, pushed for an equaliser in the dying moments, yet Karela held their nerve to secure all three points.
