Abu Francis is in high spirits and showing strong signs of recovery after surgery in Japan, according to Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, who confirmed significant improvement in the midfielder’s condition.
His positive response to treatment has eased initial concerns and provided renewed confidence as he begins the early stages of rehabilitation.
The midfielder was operated on at Toyota Memorial Hospital after suffering a serious injury during last week’s international friendly against Japan.
The Ghana Football Association announced that the procedure was completed without complications and that Francis has already entered the acute phase of his rehabilitation under close medical supervision.
Francis fractured two bones after an awkward twist while attempting to block a shot early in the second half.
In his detailed update, Asante Twum noted that the surgery “yielded excellent results” and that the player “is expected to be discharged this weekend.”
He also expressed gratitude to the surgeons in Japan, the Black Stars medical team led by Dr. Prince Pambo, and Toulouse FC’s medical staff, adding that Abu “will make a strong comeback.”
Francis was stretchered off as teammates reacted with concern to the severity of the injury. A Black Stars physiotherapist will remain in Japan to oversee his intensive therapy sessions, while plans have been made for a GFA official to accompany him back to France once he is discharged.
Francis recently joined Toulouse from Cercle Brugge and earned a recall for the November friendlies after missing Ghana’s earlier World Cup qualifiers.
