Ghana Football Association communications director Henry Asante Twum has defended the association’s efforts to field a strong Black Stars squad for November friendlies.
Several key players, including Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey, and Alexander Djiku, were absent for Ghana’s 2-0 loss to Japan and 1-0 defeat to South Korea, prompting questions about their availability.
“We wanted to have all our best players available for the friendlies against Japan and South Korea. On the side of the GFA, we did everything possible to assemble a good team," Twum told Sporty FM.
Head coach Otto Addo admitted the squad faced challenges in preparation due to injuries to Abu Francis, Mohammed Salisu, and Antoine Semenyo.
“We were facing some difficulties through some injured players,” he explained.
Abu had surgery after fracturing two bones against Japan, while Salisu and Semenyo returned to their clubs with injuries.
Addo cited visa complications as a hurdle in calling up replacements but maintained that the team prepared thoroughly.
