Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has expressed optimism about the Black Stars chances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament, to be staged in North America.
The West African football heavyweights are set for their fifth World Cup appearance after finishing on top of Group I during the qualifying series.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana earning one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
While insisting the Black Stars is more than prepared for tournament, Kofi Adams affirms the team will return something great after the global showpiece.
“We went there [to previous World Cups] to learn so we have learnt something and we are more than prepared for next year’s Mundial and we will come back with something great” Kofi Adams said at an event organized by Chinese Car Maker GWM (Great Wall Motors).
Ghana’s best performance at the World Cup was at the 2010 edition by making it to the quarterfinal stage but the Black Stars have failed to progress beyond the group stage since.
The Sports Minister’s statement comes in the wake of the Black Stars back-to-back defeats in the Kirin Challenge Cup during their Asian tour.
Ghana succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Japan last Thursday, followed a narrow defeat to South Korea on Tuesday.
