Former Ghana coach Chris Hughton believes Otto Addo will use the upcoming international friendlies to strike the right balance within his squad as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will face Japan on Friday and South Korea on Tuesday in two fixtures expected to test the team tactically and physically. Otto Addo has named an almost second-string squad for the matches, with key players such as Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Inaki Williams, and Thomas Partey all absent.
"These two games, I’m quite sure, Otto will use them to get the right balance. Come the World Cup, you want your players to have played as many games together as possible, but it’s also an opportunity to look at players who haven’t featured much," Hughton said.
He noted that Japan and South Korea will take the matches seriously, eager to face a strong Ghanaian side. "These are high-profile games. Both countries will want to play against Black Stars teams that have their best players. It’s really about getting that balance. I’m sure there’ll be strong teams."
Hughton also praised Addo for maintaining Ghana’s unbeaten run, encouraging him to sustain that form. "Otto has a good run of not losing games. That’s the kind of momentum you want to keep going. I’m sure he’ll get the right balance."
