Black Princesses coach Charles Sampson has taken encouragement from his team’s performance despite Ghana’s 3-0 loss to Nigeria in the 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup.
The defeat on Tuesday, November 11, marked Ghana’s final match of the regional tournament in Benin. The Falconets scored twice in the opening half and added a third late in the game to seal victory, completing a double over Ghana after winning their earlier meeting.
The Black Princesses entered the contest buoyed by a 2-0 triumph over Benin on Monday, but defensive lapses proved costly against the dominant Nigerians.
Speaking after the match, Sampson expressed satisfaction with several aspects of his team’s display.
“I’m very, very satisfied with many things, but our lack of concentration to concede a goal like this is a hard one to take in,” he said.
“The purpose of coming here is also to see certain things about us that we need to develop and how we handle different situations,” Sampson added.
Ghana finished the tournament with two victories over Benin and two losses to Nigeria.
The coach believes the experience will prove vital as the Black Princesses prepare to face South Africa in the next FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
