Ghana head coach Otto Addo has explained the reasons behind defender Mohammed Salisu’s late arrival to the Black Stars camp in Japan ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Japan and South Korea.
Speaking on Thursday, Addo said the AS Monaco defender missed the initial part of the camp due to an injury sustained after his last match in France, which required treatment before joining the squad.
“Salisu had suffered an injury after his last match in France, so he was getting some treatment. That’s why he came late. We’ll see today if he can train. We have some other issues here and there, but I think he’s very healthy,” Addo explained.
The Ghana coach also noted that time differences and long travel would be factors in assessing the readiness of both Salisu and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who joined the camp later than most of the squad.
Both players are expected to participate in the Black Stars’ final training session on Thursday ahead of the Kirin Challenge Cup clash with Japan at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi on Friday, which serves as part of Ghana’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
