Black Stars coach Otto Addo believes his squad proved at the 2022 World Cup that they can compete with top teams on their best days.
Ghana will face Japan at Toyota Stadium on Friday, November 14, in the Kirin Cup, with kick-off set for 10:20 a.m., as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The Black Stars’ only victory at Qatar 2022 came in a 3-2 win over South Korea, while defeats to Portugal and Uruguay ended their campaign.
Speaking ahead of the Japan clash, Addo acknowledged the quality of the hosts but expressed confidence in Ghana’s capabilities despite missing key players.
"With the result of beating Brazil 3-2, you can see how Japanese football has developed. It's still developing, so it's going to be very tough for us. But we also have developed, we have a lot of young, hungry players on board," Addo said.
He highlighted the team’s potential on strong performances.
"We have a team, I think, on bad days, we can struggle, but on good days, we can beat everyone.
"We showed at the last World Cup, at least also that we were close to beating Portugal, we beat South Korea, so I think we have a competitive team and we're looking forward also to make the next step."
The upcoming matches against Japan and South Korea will give Addo an opportunity to test squad depth and tactical adjustments ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
