Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has declared that Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo is good enough to start for any of the Premier League’s elite clubs, hailing the Bournemouth star as one of the division’s most complete wingers this season.
Semenyo’s form has been one of the defining stories of the 2024/25 campaign.
The 25-year-old has registered six goals and three assists in the Premier League so far â a tally bettered only by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland â and has been central to Bournemouth’s best-ever start to a top-flight season.
His performances have reignited transfer interest from several leading clubs despite his recent contract extension at the Vitality Stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both held talks with the Ghana international during the summer before he opted to remain at Bournemouth. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who signed him from Bristol City for £10.5 million in January 2023, is also reported to be an admirer.
Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT, insisted that Semenyo’s blend of pace, strength, and direct attacking play makes him a guaranteed starter across the league’s top sides.
“I look at the league table, and name me a team he doesn’t start for on that left-hand side. Name one,” he said.
“He’s better than [Man City’s Jérémy] Doku. He starts for Arsenal if [Eberechi] Eze plays in that number 10 position. [He’s] better than [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard. Better than [Cody] Gakpo [at Liverpool]. Starts for Spurs.”
Semenyo’s consistent displays â including a match-winning penalty against Brighton and a stunning free-kick at Leeds â have drawn widespread praise, with teammate Justin Kluivert calling him “world-class.”
Agbonlahor’s co-host, Jamie O’Hara, urged Tottenham to “go all out” for the winger, suggesting he would thrive alongside compatriot Mohammed Kudus.
Yet Agbonlahor countered that Semenyo’s ambitions may lie higher, questioning whether Spurs are “big enough” for a player destined for Champions League football.
