Ghanaian midfield dynamo Stella Nyamekye has been nominated for the women Young Player of the Year ahead of the 2025 CAF Awards.
The 20-year-old made the ten-woman shortlist after his outstanding display for the Black Queens at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Nyamekye scored a goal and delivered an assist in four games as the Black Queens reached the semi-final of the tournament. Her goal in the semi-final against hosts Morocco almost sent the Black Queens to their first final in decades only for the team to eventually lose on penalties.
Meanwhile, Nyamekye, who plays for USL Super League club Fort Lauderdale United FC, will face competition from Habiba Essam of Al Ahly and Egypt, Zambian duo Mercy Chipasula and Ruth Mukoma as well as Morocco's Doha El Madani.
Also in running for the award are Tanzania pair Ester Maseke Marwa and Winfrida Gerald, Nigeria's Shakirat Moshood, Anji Ndiaye of Senegal and Egypt's Habiba Sabry.
The final shortlist and date for the awards is yet to be announced by CAF.
Nyamekye will however travel to Ghana next week to join her Black Queens teammates as preparations begin for the WAFCON qualifier against Egypt.
