Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that he primarily views Jordan Ayew as a central striker rather than a wide forward.
Addo praised the Leicester star for his leadership and consistency during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Ayew was one of Ghana’s standout performers in the qualifiers, where the team finished top of Group I with 25 points to seal their place at next year’s tournament.
The experienced forward featured in all ten matches, registering 14 goal involvements â seven goals and seven assists â the highest tally by any player in the CAF qualifiers.
His crucial goals, including a hat-trick against the Central African Republic and a late winner against Mali, highlighted his growing influence as a finisher rather than just a supporting forward.
Addo, reflecting on Ayew’s impact, said the 34-year-old’s qualities fit the profile of a natural No.9 who leads by example.
“Since the day I came, he’s been good. I predominantly see him as a No.9. He’s a great leader. The most important thing is that we have clarity in the team and there is unity in the team,” Addo told Joy Sports.
