Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has backed forward Albert Amoah for a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, following his impressive start to the season.
The player has four goals in five games in all competitions this season and was key for the club last season as they won the FA Cup.
Speaking after Kotoko’s 2-0 victory over defending Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars in Kumasi, Zito praised Amoah’s form and consistency, insisting that the 23-year-old has earned the right to be considered for international duty.
“You saw what he did and you are called into the Black Stars based on performance,” Zito said after the match. “If it is performance, I think Albert Amoah is on top; he deserves at least to be called.”
Amoah continued his fine run by scoring Kotoko’s second goal in Wednesday’s win, curling a precise effort into the net from the edge of the box.
The strike marked his second goal in three league appearances this season, helping Kotoko maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The former Accra Great Olympics forward was previously tipped for a late Black Stars call-up to replace injured Inaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao, but the technical team opted instead for Brandon Thomas-Asante of Coventry City.
