The Black Stars of Ghana took a major step toward qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 5â0 demolition of Central African Republic (CAR) in their penultimate Group I qualifier on Wednesday.
The result leaves Ghana just one point away from securing their fifth World Cup appearance, with a decisive final clash against Comoros set for Sunday, October 12, in Accra.
Goals from Mohammed Kudus, Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew and Kamaldeen Sulemana ensured a professional performance from Otto Addo’s side, who maintained their composure throughout a disciplined and dominant display at the Stade D’Honneur de Meknes, Morocco.
The win takes Ghana to 22 points, three clear at the top of the group, and within touching distance of a ticket to the global showpiece to be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
Ayew, Ghana’s talisman and top scorer in the qualifiers, scored his 7th goal of the campaign midway through the second half with a sumptuous volley.
Beyond the goals, Ghana impressed with their tactical discipline and defensive solidity. The central defensive pairing of Mohammed Salisu and Alexander Djiku marshalled the backline effectively, while Thomas Partey and Kwasi Sibo controlled the tempo in midfield.
The victory puts Ghana in pole position heading into the final round of matches, where a draw against Comoros on Sunday will confirm their qualification to the FIFA World Cup.
