Reports suggest Kwara United will throw open the gates for free when they host Asante Kotoko in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie on Sunday.
The Nigerian side is hoping to fill the stands at their adopted home in Abeokuta to create an intimidating atmosphere for the Ghanaian giants, who hold a narrow advantage after a thrilling 4-3 win in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Kwara showed great resilience in Kumasi, coming from behind twice and scoring three away goals, which could yet prove decisive. While Kotoko may hold the edge on paper, the home side is banking on the energy of a packed stadium to inspire them to overturn the deficit and progress.
The second leg was originally scheduled for the Rashid Yekini Sports Complex in Ilorin, but ongoing renovation works forced a switch to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, a four-and-a-half-hour drive away. With many fans unable to make the trip, Kwara United are now counting on the local community to rally behind them, describing the fixture as a “national affair.”
The winner of this encounter will advance to face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad AC in the next round of the competition.m
