Former Asante Kotoko attacker Kwadwo Poku Mahala has thrown his weight behind the Porcupine Warriors to triumph over Kwara United in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
The Porcupine Warriors head into the return leg with a slim advantage after edging their Nigerian counterpart 4-3 in a pulsating first-leg preliminary round encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.
In a high-stake return clash on Sunday, September 28, Kwara United will host the Ghanaian giants at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, with both teams yearning for positive results to better their chances of progressing to the second preliminary.
The match has been moved from the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, the home of Kwara United, to the MKO Abiola Stadium due to renovation work.
Speaking to Kessben FM, Kwadwo Poku expressed optimism about Kotoko’s chances of progressing to the next stage of the competition despite holding a slim advantage.
“We hope the team succeed in Nigeria. We have already beaten them in Ghana and awaiting the return leg. We are going to Nigeria with a clear focus, thus if we don’t score in the return leg, we will also not allow them to score against us either. I will plead with the fans to pray behind the team for success” he said.
Meanwhile, Kotoko coach Karim Zito has summoned 20-man squad for the crucial return clash on Sunday against Kwara United.
The Porcupine Warriors are expected to depart Ghana for the upcoming clash in the West African country.
