Ghana’s University for Development Studies (UDS) will take on Brazil’s Paulista University in the final of the FISU World University Football Tournament after a dramatic semi-final triumph in China.
The Ghanaian side sealed their spot in Sunday’s showpiece with a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over Spain’s University of Granada on Friday in Dalian.
UDS, the first Ghanaian university to reach the final of a global football competition, overcame a nerve-wracking semi-final in which neither side could find the breakthrough in 90 minutes of intense action.
With the score locked at 0-0, the match was decided from the spot, where the Ghanaian students held their composure to prevail 5-4.
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Edo emerged the hero of the night, making two crucial saves in the shoot-out to send his teammates and the travelling Ghanaian support into raptures.
The result also marks the first time since 2009 that a Ghanaian team has reached the final of a global football tournament.
All focus now shifts to the final on Sunday, 28 September 2025, where UDS will aim to dethrone defending champions Paulista University and crown their fairytale run with a historic title.
