The head coach of Heart of Lions, Bashir Hayford, is determined to lead the team to win the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
The coach and his team impressed in the 2024/25 campaign, finishing second and just three points behind league champions Bibiani Gold Stars.
Reflecting on his team’s performance last season, Bashir Hayford has noted that failing to win many away matches affected their chance of clinching the title.
He insists that in the new season, his team will fight to pick up many away wins to improve their chance of winning the league.
“So many things have opened my eyes. When you are coaching big clubs, the aura is different from coaching a smaller club. So sometimes it’s difficult to win matches away as a small club. But for big clubs, you don’t fear whether you are playing home or away. I think that has taught me a lesson that I have to be wary of our away matches because if we had made some inputs in the away matches, I think we would have won the league last season.
“And another lesson is that we drew about three matches at home. That one also affected us. So I have to watch our home and away matches if we want to win the league,” Bashir Hayford said.
Heart of Lions have commenced the new league season on a winning note, having defeated Dreams FC 1-0 in their opening fixture.
The team will now travel to Techiman to face off with Eleven Wonders in Week 2.
