Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffo believes coach Karim Zito is the right man to lead the club despite their poor display at the just-ended GHALCA Top 4.
The Porcupine Warriors finished bottom of the four-team competition, failing to win a single game.
The performance of the team has aroused concerns ahead of the start of the new campaign with the Reds set to also participate in Africa.
Zito, who took over from coach Prosper Narteh Ogum in April, led the club to FA Cup success and added post-season trophies, the President Cup and Toyota Cup to his accolades.
"It’s a big plus for the team when you look at what [Karim] Zito did when Dreams FC played in the CAF Confederation Cup, and for a split second when they mentioned his name, I didn’t see anything bad about it because I knew him from my infancy,' he told Radio Gold.
"So giving the job to him as Kotoko coach will help the team because it will transition them into something different because when you look at last season, from the beginning to the latter part, they were struggling, but when he came, he was able to change some dynamics about the team, and at the end of the day, they were able to win laurels.”
Asante Kotoko will face Bibiani GoldStars in the Champion of Champions Cup to usher in the new campaign.
