Ghanaian youngster Jerry Afriyie made an explosive impact in his first league start for CD Lugo, scoring twice in their narrow 3-2 defeat to Barakaldo C.F. in the Spanish Primera Federacin.
The 18-year-old forward, playing just his second match for Lugo, wasted no time in making his mark. After Barakaldo took an early lead in the third minute, Afriyie responded with a well-taken goal to level the score. Just six minutes later, he struck again to put Lugo ahead, showcasing his sharp finishing ability and composure in front of goal.
Despite Afriyies heroics, Lugo couldn't hold onto their advantage. The hosts mounted a strong comeback, with Vctor Isuskiza equalizing in the 70th minute before Santiago Pablo netted the winner five minutes from time.
Afriyies arrival is expected to bolster Lugos fight to avoid relegation, and his early goal-scoring form is a promising sign for the team.
The African Games gold medalist is also in contention for a place in Ghanas squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
