Ghana Police Service has added sports policing to its training manual for current recruits â?? Henry Asante Twum
The Ghana Police Service has incorporated sports policing into its training manual for recruits currently undergoing training, according to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.This initiative forms part of a series of measures introduced following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong.Frimpong was fatally stabbed on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman.Speaking to Sporty FM, Asante Twum emphasized the importance of this addition to the police curriculum.The Ghana Police Service has decided to include sports policing in their training manual for recruits currently in the various training camps, he said.This step aims to equip officers with specialized knowledge to handle security at sporting events.The enhanced safety measures also include appointing Club Safety and Security Officers and installing CCTV cameras at match venues. The GFA has warned that clubs failing to comply with these protocols will face severe penalties, including fines of GH20,000 and venue bans.
