New safety protocols will work alongside existing ones â?? Prosper Harrison Addo
General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association Prosper Harrison Addo has assured football stakeholders that the newly introduced matchday safety protocols will complement existing guidelines to improve security at match venues.His comments follow the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, who was fatally stabbed on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman.Speaking on Asempa FM, Harrison Addo emphasized that the enhanced protocols were developed after consultations with key stakeholders.Weve gone around and gathered ideas to put together the enhanced matchday safety and security protocols from stakeholders, he said.He explained that the new protocols represent the first step, with education and implementation to follow. These new protocols will work in tandem with the already existing guidelines, he added.Key measures in the enhanced protocols include appointing Club Safety and Security Officers and installing CCTV cameras at match venues.The GFA has warned that non-compliance will attract severe penalties, such as fines of GH20,000 and venue bans.
