Amankwah Mireku backs Hearts and Kotoko's demand for more TV rights money
Ghana Premier League legend Yaw Amankwah Mireku has supporter Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko's demand for more TV rights money. The two most successful clubs in Ghana released a join statement making demands from the Ghana FA on several issues, including TV rights. The statement comes as part of reforms the two clubs are requesting for following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley.According to Amankah Mireku, Hearts and Kotoko have a good claim for more money due to their large following. There are two big rivalry teams that make the league very interesting. For Ghana, that is Kotoko and Hearts so for them to demand a bigger share of the TV deal, yes, they deserve it, he said, as quoted by Citi Sports. Why are Kotoko and Hearts matches shown live on TV more than other teams? Its because of their pedigree and what they bring to the league. So, for me, their demand is fair, and it should be granted. If Kotoko and Hearts get more from TV rights, that money should reflect in player incentives and development but the players also need to step up and perform to justify these demands. If the league improves, more sponsors will come in, and that benefits everyone.
