The Referees' manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Alexander Kotey, is facing the sack over his controversial U-turn on bribery allegation against former vice-president George Afriyie.The Head of Referees of the Football Association has come under fire for backtracking on a wild allegation against the former Ghana FA top official.He told Accra-based Top FM that George Afriyie attempted to influence him during a league match involving Swedru All Black and Asante Kotoko years ago.Amid a court threat, Mr. Kotey has eaten humble pie, claiming the allegations he leveled against Mr. Afriyie is a figment of his imagination.The situation presents a murky and dicey one for the former FIFA referee as his position now appears untenable given his role as Referees' manager for the Football Association.Pressure is mounting on him to step aside as perception of inconsistency and loss of credibility in asuch a high-stakes role where integrity is paramount.Such a U-turn could have serious implications for Kotey's credibility and the GFA's integrity, putting his position as Referees' manager untenable.Ale Kotey's backtrack on such a serious claims, will likely create confusion and suspicion about whether the original allegations were valid or politically motivated.The Executive Council of the GFA is considering dismissing him due to concerns over his reliability and how his actions have affected the GFA's reputation.The reversal of bribery allegations could be seen as damaging to the trust and transparency that the football community expects from those in managerial positions.The situation may also have broader implications for how the GFA handles integrity issues and the appointment or management of referees.Refereeing is a crucial aspect of the game, and any suggestion of bribery or corruption can harm the sports image.The retired Referee has worked as a Referees Instructor, Referee Assessor and also a Match Commissioner.
