Limiting number Ghana Premier League venues could tackle hooliganism - Alhaji Brimah 'Akanbi'
Former Hearts of Oak board member, Alhaji Amadu Brimah 'Akanbi', believes limiting the number of venues for Ghana Premier League matches could help curb hooliganism.His comments follow the violent incident at the Nana Koromansah Park, which resulted in the death of Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong.The tragic event occurred during a Week 19 match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko, raising concerns about safety and security at league centers.Akanbi attributed delays in implementing the leagues autonomy to clubs failing to pay the required fees. He emphasized that venue selection plays a crucial role in ensuring fan safety.Why do we play football under duress? Nobody should accept it, and this one I will blame on ourselves. We decided on making the Ghana Premier League autonomous three years ago, Akanbi stated.We could have chosen five stadia to host games. Not every stadium is suitable for hosting games. This could have avoided something like the demise of the fan.He added that the process for league autonomy was almost complete, but clubs had yet to fulfill their financial obligations.
