Asante Kotoko chairman slams police over inaction in Pooleyâ??s tragic death
Asante Kotokos Interim Management Committee chairman, Nana Apinkra Akwesi Awuah, has criticised the Ghana Police Service for failing to act swiftly in the violent incident that led to the tragic death of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.Speaking directly to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare during a visit to the clubs headquarters, Nana Apinkra expressed deep disappointment with the police officers present at the scene, accusing them of failing to administer first aid or intervene effectively.I know your men are trained and educated in first-aid treatment. But when the incident happened, the policemen were just standing there watching, he said.In some of the videos, one of them was even peeping through the crowd to watch. But I thought the police were there to handle such situations.IGP Dampare led a high-ranking delegation from the Ghana Police Service to meet with Kotoko officials in Kumasi on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.The visit aimed to discuss security concerns following the fatal stabbing of Pooley during the clubs Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC on February 2.The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) suspending the use of Nana Konamansah Park and temporarily halting the league. In response, Asante Kotoko has announced its withdrawal from the competition in protest.
