Hossam Hassan aims to lead Egypt to eighth AFCON title
Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has set his sights on guiding the Pharaohs to a record-extending eighth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title as they prepare for the 2025 tournament in Morocco.Following the group stage draw in Rabat, Hassan expressed confidence in his squads ability to reclaim continental glory. Egypt, seven-time champions, have been drawn into Group B alongside South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe. This AFCON will be well-organized because the infrastructure in Morocco is superb, Hassan stated. Were delighted to be among the qualified teams, and our goal is to win our eighth title.Egypts last AFCON triumph came in 2010, and despite reaching the finals in 2017 and 2021, they have fallen short of adding to their trophy haul. The Pharaohs will rely on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Manchester Citys Omar Marmoush to spearhead their attack. We are fortunate to have Salah, one of the worlds best players, alongside Marmoush, Hassan added. Their presence adds positive pressure on the squad, and I promise Egyptian fans they will see great performances at this AFCON.Egypts journey begins with the group stage, but potential knockout clashes against African powerhouses like Senegal or Cte dIvoire loom ahead. However, Hassan remains focused. We respect all our opponents, but our goal is clear: to bring the AFCON trophy back to Egypt, he affirmed. The tournament kicks off on December 21, 2025, with Egypt among the favourites to contend for the title.
