Founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga has criticised the leadership of Ghana, stressing the need for a fundamental shift in the nation’s political landscape.
He described the concept of leadership as akin to fatherhood.
“There are two fathers in the world biological father and father of the nation. One can be changed and one can never be changed. Your biological father cannot be changed but the father of the nation can be changed, so as a biological father, if you are unable to serve your family, you cannot be changed as a father, but as a nation father, when you are unable to build your country, we change you,” Ayariga asserted.
He said this in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show on March 26.
Citing the failures of past leadership, Ayariga lamented, “Leaders in this country have failed the people in the country. They have tested the NDC, they have tested the NPP, they have no future, they don’t even want to vote again, they are crying we are tired.”
He underscored the urgent need for addressing basic necessities such as water, electricity, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, which remain unfulfilled even after 67 years of independence.
“What we need are basics, the standards, yet over 67 years after independence, we still cannot provide constant supply of water, constant supply of electricity, good roads. These are the basics, I’m taking about Hospitals, proper schools, infrastructure, we still cannot make these things available to our people after 67 years of independence” he said.
Highlighting the crucial role of change in fostering progress, Ayariga emphasized, “Change is a key to new life. When you make changes, you get new life but if you refuse to change you will be where you are and be stagnant.”
He criticized the practice of recycling political leadership, particularly between the two dominant parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating “This is what over the years we’ve been doing, recycling of those who were supposed to be changed. There is a difference between change ad recycling. What we need is a change not recycling NDC or NPP, we’ve been recycling the two 8 years NDC, 8 years NPP.”
Ayariga called upon Ghanaians to reconsider their trust in traditional political entities and to embrace new alternatives. He urged citizens to trust him as a leader who has demonstrated a commitment to both his family and his entrepreneurial endeavors, promising to prioritize the well-being and development of the nation if given the opportunity to lead.
“Trust is something that you give and when you give you get results. If you’ve given trust to the NPP and the NDC and the results is not good, you change. You want to trust me? Trust me as a father who has taken good care of my family, trust me as an entrepreneur who has made it in life, trust me as a man who sees his word and work through that and makes sure it happens,” he asserted.
