President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday visited potential military recruits admitted to the 37 military hospital following an unfortunate stampede that occurred at the Elwak Stadium in Accra.
The President was accompanied by Dr Ato Baah Forson, the Acting Defence Minister and Lieutenant General William Agyepong, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The GAF, in an earlier statement, said due to the fatal incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra had been temporarily suspended.
It said this was to allow for additional measures to ensure a seamless exercise.
The statement said a Board of Inquiry had been constituted to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
It said the process in the other 15 regions would, however, continue as scheduled.
“The Armed Forces deeply regrets any inconvenience this suspension may have caused the general public, particularly affected applicants,” the statement said.
“Applicants will be informed of the date of resumption of the process later.”
