A FIERCE gun battle between officers of the Ashanti South Regional Police Command and some suspected hoodlums, has resulted in the killing of two hardened robbers at Offinso Anyankaso.
Among the deceased is Osman Majid, 25, alias ‘Cross’, who has been on police radar for a long time for committing high-profile robberies and also killing three people in the past without being arrested to face the law.
The other deceased suspect has also been identified by the police as 20-year-old Abdulai Sadik. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital mortuary for preservation and post-mortem.
The police disclosed that, Cross, on April 3, 2023, allegedly, used a machete to chop off the four left fingers of 19-year-old, Kingsford Bediako, at Barniekrom near Mankranso in the Ashanti Region.
He has also been accused of killing three other people at different locations in Mankranso in the past, amid other high-profile residential robberies. But despite being hunted by the police, he always managed to escape arrest.
Police Intelligence
According to Ashanti South Regional Police statement, police had intelligence that Cross, who had managed to evade arrest for a long time, was now hiding in three different hideouts with his group of miscreants in Offinso.
Armed with this vital information, three senior officers and other ranks from the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, conducted simultaneous raids in the three identified hideouts on October 1, 2025.
Fierce Gun Fight
But before the police could get closer to Cross, who was hiding at Offinso Anyankaso and arrest him, the dangerous robber, who was armed with a gun, reportedly opened fire on the police officers, while he tried to escape through a ceiling.
The police officers, who are professionally trained to encounter such dangerous situations, also returned fire immediately, which resulted in Cross and Abdulai Sadik being hit by bullets, causing injuries to both of them.
“An intelligence-led operation was conducted, led by three senior officers and other ranks from Ashanti South Region, comprising four service vehicles (branded and unbranded), simultaneously raided the identified locations.
“At Offinso Anyankaso, the suspect fired a gunshot from his room and attempted to escape through the ceiling. The police tactically returned fire, and two suspects sustained gunshot injuries,” the police statement disclosed.
Confession
During interrogation, the police said “Cross admitted to multiple robberies in the Manso area and confessed to killing three people at Mankranso. He also mentioned Kingkong, Roy, Fii, Raph, Koboo, Ali and Ike, as his accomplices.”
According to the police report, which the paper has sighted, Cross also claimed that guns which they use for their robbery operations “are with Kingkong, Koboo and Ali at a mining site in Manso in the Ashanti Region.”
The police said they wanted to gather more information from Cross and Sadik so they could rely on it and arrest their above mentioned accomplices, who are at large, but sadly they were both declared dead at the hospital.
“The suspects were rushed to Bekwai Municipal Hospital for treatment, but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited in the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the police said.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command indicated that, despite the death of Cross and Sadik, “An investigation is still underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accomplices and retrieve the guns.”

The police said they retrieved “A pump-action gun with six rounds of ammunition, one black Smith and Wesson pistol, 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an unmarked pistol, and two spent cartridges” from Cross and Sadik.
Further search in the room, police said, “revealed three smart mobile phones, two key pad phones, mobile phone accessories, one apple laptop, one machete, a smock and ash singlet with talismans, one black body armour, one brown body armour, and two long boots (desert and black).”
The police also disclosed that, a picture frame of Cross’ gang, a Ghana Card, bearing the picture of suspect Cross and the name Osman Majid and an amount of GH¢2,680, were found on the two deceased persons.
Reward Gallant Officers
Meanwhile, residents of Mankranso, Offinso, Manso and other mining areas in the Ashanti Region where Cross and his group conducted their illegal operations, have showered tons of praises on the gallant police officers.
According to them, Cross had been a thorn in their flesh for many years, so the police officers who risked their lives to eliminate him should be promoted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to motivate other policemen to fight crime.
