Alhaji Massud Kouanda
The enskinment of a national chief for the Moshies by the Nayiri of Mamprugu has triggered a reaction from the Moshie Chief of Abeka in Accra, Alhaji Sulley Oubda, Naaba Sobgo I.
In the reaction, the chief first rendered gratitude to the Mamprugu Overlord for as he put it “giving us land at Nalerigu called Zindiya. We again want to promise His Royal Highness that the land will be put to good use. We are most grateful.”
The paramount chief of the Moshie community and all the 26 sub-chiefs in the Greater Accra Region, after consultation with the regional Moshie chiefs, vehemently opposed the purported installation of a Moshie Chief for Ghana at the forecourt of the Overlord on November 29, 2023 by some selected few individuals without the knowledge and consent of all the regional Moshie Chiefs in Ghana.
Being part of the Gbewaa family, the statement said three separate places have been given to them to settle namely Dagbon, Mamprugu and Wa, but currently Mamprugu has handed to them land even as they await the others to do same.
“Does it mean that any group of Moshie people who go for the other two places can as well be installed chiefs on the said settlements and be named Ghana Moshie Overlords? We don’t think so.”
He went on to say that while they are not against anybody vying for a higher position, the right thing must however be done and with consensus.
The Moshie Paramount, the statement explained, was informed about the land and he gave his blessings to the delegation which went to the Overlord.
He questioned why someone the paramount chief installed four years ago now become boss over him, which is what this development suggests.
The statement called on the security agencies, Chieftaincy Ministry and the Council of Zongo Chiefs to take note about the dangerous trend.
It would be recalled that earlier news about the installation of a Moshie Chief for the entire Moshie community made the headlines.
This followed a visit by the Moshie community delegation to Mamprugu two years ago. They requested for a land to build a permanent hometown which was obliged by the Chief of Kperigu under the directive of the Nayiri or Mamprugu Overlord.
A request was made for the enskinment of a Ghana Moshie Naaba.
Alhaji Massud Kouanda, the Moshie Chief of Ga Central, was accordingly enskinned under the title of Naaba Wobgo II.
The foregone is the source of the controversy and disapproval by the Paramount Chief of Moshies in the Greater Accra Region.
