A business man, Bismark Kyeremateng, is in the grips of the police in the Ashanti Region for allegedly importing and distributing fake electricity meters.
Kyeremateng is said to have been in the business for the past two years was arrested at his office at Kronom, a suburb of Kumasi.
He is said to have imported the meters bearing the name Cimaens and sold them at GH¢250 each.
Briefing Graphic Online Wednesday, the Ashanti Regional Communications Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Erasmus Kyereh Baidoo, said the revenue protection unit first detected some of the meters around the Kumasi Abattoir.
He said one of the persons using the meters who was picked up by the Police Unit of the ECG led the team to Kyeremanteng’s house.
He said the team found the suspect with 25 of the meters in his office.
